So what? Sew buttons!

The baby is four months and I have finally made the curtains for her room!! It was my one goal for the weekend and Sunday morning after breakfast I was all eager to get started. I now have more respect than ever for Project Runway contestants. Four rectangular curtain panels, basically large envelopes, with nothing but straight seams, took me I don’t even want to say how many hours. Probably five. I have to say, though, that even though it took me a long time, it took me so much less time and was so much easier than when I made my son’s curtains. Now I have the benefit of having used my machine a lot and being more confident. When I made curtains for his room they were the first thing I ever made on my sewing machine and there was much referring to the handbook for needle threading, bobbin winding, etc.

Basically I had muslin for the front and back, with a panel of Peter Rabbit fabric at the bottom. you may recall this is the same fabric I used to make the lampshade for her room. OK, now it is two days after I started writing this and the curtains are hung. I think they look charming and pretty and the double thickness of muslin is a good weight. Not surprisingly, when I hung two panels they were different lengths. This is undoubtedly because I am not much of a measurer. I did think that all my lengths for each panel were equal, but apparently not. And also, apparently just matching pieces of fabric to each other to cut out the same size doesn’t quite work. However, I still think they look fine. This is why I can’t make clothes though. I’d say these curtains are probably a good 2 inches shorter than I anticipated they would be.

I’ll include a few other photos here of the lovely decoupaged mirror hanging on her wall, as well as the beautiful and touching mural my husband painted on her wall. It is similar to the one he painted in Clark’s room before he was born.
