What Should Dolly Wear?
October 6, 2009 at 5:25 pm | In Family, Funky Photos, Sewing | 4 CommentsTabitha loves her baby dolls and kisses them loudly, pushes them around in strollers, puts them to bed, wraps them up, feeds them, and is a very good little mother to them (well, she’s kind of rough with them, but she kills them with kindness.) The dolls are usually naked, except for one that she insisted wear a shirt of hers. As you can imagine it was ridiculously large and she was always needing to be adjusted:

So the other day I did some alterations to the 12-18 month sized bodysuit and voila! Baby has a dress and also a fetching little hat. See how happy she is?

Inspired, I decided to make her a dress out of some other fabric. Here she is in her sailor dress and crazy cap:

Check out this vibrantly orange mushroom I found in the woods (there is no color enhancement on this photo):

Yesterday we went apple picking again. This time we got a good variety of Winesap, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, and Ida Red. They were all…delicious.

Welcome to Fungus Fairyland

Check out this beautiful mushroom spotted at Clark’s school this morning. I was so taken with it that I went back this afternoon to photograph it. I just couldn’t get over the way this spongy little plant had literally burst through the solid moss. See how it has just torn right through it? I mean, how fast did that thing grow?? I’m under the impression it basically shot up through the ground overnight. It is just too perfect and adorable–just the sort of mushroom one expects to have fairies living under. I didn’t see any fairies, but I did manage to catch these creatures in the act of hanging around this fungus.

This specimen is clearly a fairy table:

And this is “yellow golf ball mushroom”:

And in case you had any doubt that these bizarre looking things existed millions of year ago…

Next time you’re outside take a look around and you just might see some magical places right at your own feet!
Ice Chain

It snowed last night, making everything look festive and lovely. The rain chain is now an ice chain. I’m feeling festive and going to bake my first batch of Christmas cookies today.

Urchins
November 24, 2008 at 10:36 pm | In Basic Musings, Family, Funky Photos | Leave a CommentMy kids love getting messy. Clark especially is not only a very messy eater, but he also loves to play in the dirt and mud. The more mess, the better. (I can’t really say the same about Tabitha yet, she is just a baby and by nature not yet able to eat neatly. )
I think these pictures of them are fabulous and love them and capture childhood. Either you do, too, or you are horrified and it makes your skin crawl.
Extreme Close Up
November 24, 2008 at 4:23 pm | In Basic Musings, Funky Photos, Sewing | 1 CommentThis weekend we had our friends at Interchangeable Parts over for dinner and games and they brought their big ass macro lens with them. Here then, some pictures (above is an advancing squirrel army-these are silver salt and pepper shakers I inherited.):
a funky fossily coraly rock we picked up at the beach
A close up of a hammered brass lamp
Close up of detail of a silver dish that was my great-grandmother’s
In very exciting news I have started work on the dress I am making for Tabitha. I bought a beautiful soft chartreuse babycord fabric. It is a bit sheerer than I would have liked now that I am working with it. Because they didn’t have any printed corduroy (which is what I wanted) I bought some ribbon to adorn the bottm of the dress with.
