Plans for a New Garden and Happy Mother’s Day to Me!

Posted on

What a lovely Mother’s Day I’ve just had. We spent the day doing things outside and it was so nice and fun. I received a beautiful copper birdbath which fits into some new plans Paul came up with–a birding garden! We have a little area next to the patio which has thick and lovely grass, but is a pain to mow. And along the garage are two azaleas and then the world’s craziest mess of tall weeds which cannot be tamed. So we’re hoping to put some rocks down to delineate the area and put in plants and feeders and such and the lovely new birdbath can be the centerpiece.

Yesterday and today I’ve been taking more close ups of things in bloom. To my surprise the teeny tiny lilac is blooming.

The peony buds get bigger and antier.

The hostas are growing gorgeously. When I saw this puddle of water shimmering on this big leaf it looked like a blob of mercury.  I immediately thought, “oh, if I were a little girl I would pretend that fairies drank from this pool and washed their teeny faces in it.” In fact, it seems like everything around the pond has just gotten so thick and green.

The water iris has many buds,

the giant pennywort is now on two sides of the pond (last year it was in one pot on one side-the roots have just trailed all the way across.)

All in all, things are looking great!
