Yesterday afternoon the chickens escaped their enclosure. After bringing the dog in (hurrah! He didn’t gobble them up!) we hung out outside (60 degrees?!!) and enjoyed watching them relish their freedom. They are quite tame and were just thrilled to be scratching about madly and gobbling up grass, weeds, and bugs.
Today I let them out intentionally and again it was so much fun to see them. They single handedly (ok, 8 footedly) cleared out all along the driveway.
They visited every area of the yard that had ever been tilled, gardened, planted. And I’m pleased to report that they put themselves to bed very nicely when dusk came. They will not be satisfied to remain in their enclosure anymore! Oh, and yesterday Clark picked one right up. Today he informed me that he lay down on one. I didn’t see it but I did see a hen huffily stalking away from him.
We’re getting two, sometimes three, eggs a day now, which is awesome. It’s so satisfying to finally have our chickens!
