What a productive New Year’s Day-I made two things for Clark! I had been thinking I needed to make some things for him, a feeling confirmed when he told me two days ago how much he wanted me to make him a beautiful dress like Tabby has. I didn’t say boys don’t wear dresses, but I suggested he try one on and see if he liked it before I made him something. I also told him about some other things I had planned for him, which he was very excited about.
Project #1: Eleanor brought me a wonderful packet of fat quarters she had received in a fat quarter of the month shipment. The “Be a Man” assortment was not to her liking, but I knew I could do something with it. How about a simple wrench shape applique made out of the nuts and bolts fabric? I did a google image search for wrench and Clark chose which kind he wanted. Paul drew it on the fabric and I zigzag appliqued it on to a plain blue shirt I had bought. I used that stabilizer stuff (I forget what it’s called) and it really made a difference. He is delighted with it.
Project #2: From One Yard Wonders, this is Steggie, the stuffed dinosaur! I had never made a stuffed animal before, so I was a little apprehensive about the legs, but honestly this could not have been easier. I am especially thrilled with the fabric. The little fire breathing dragons/dinos are just perfect for this project. This was a fabric that Clark had seen at the store a few months ago and had to have. It is flannel and I prewashed it so it would be soft and fluffy. The instructions call for button eyes, but since Clark hates all things buttons I will either embroider eyes, or blanket stitch on some little felt circles for eyes. In the meantime Steggie is being loved and cuddled regardless of his eyeless state.
