Full Moon

Posted on

Since starting our photoblog I find myself each night thinking of the poor runner up photos. The great pictures that I don’t choose for it, since we only choose one per day.  So today’s two runners up are going here.  Tonight is a full moon and we happened to be out driving between 5 and 5:30, when it was rising. It was huge (and startled me so much that I swerved into the other lane on a windy road-oops!) and glowing and so, well, otherworldly.  Quite spectacular.  I drove up a driveway to a far that we had discovered last year when land was up for auction.  It turned out to be a beautiful spot to see the moon glowing against the blue sky, above a farm.

Then, as we turned down the road closer to home I decided to finally take a picture of this barn with the moon behind it. This picture is really all about the barn, not the moon.  Ever since they fixed up and repainted and made this old barn beautiful again I’ve wanted a picture of it.

  2. I was also driving at about 5:15, just after the sun had dipped below the horizon and the moon had risen above the treeline and roofs in our neighborhood. And I was also so startled by it that I swerved into the other lane! I believe I also yelped aloud, alone in my car, “Oh my GOD!” Because the sun was basically just past the other side of the horizon, the moon wasn’t white yet when I saw it — it was like an enormous pale gold coin. Just amazing. Of course, I was driving home from work and really wanted a nap, so I didn’t head back out with my camera… I’m glad you got so many beautiful pictures of it!
