A First Grader!

Posted on

1st Day of 1st Grade
Clark’s first day of school is today and he very happily headed off a short time ago. I surprisingly don’t feel gushily “Oh I can’t believe my baby is in first grade!”  He was both excited and nervous, and already thinks his teacher is terrific, so that’s great.  I have such fond memories of first grade.  I had the most awesome teacher, Mrs. Morris, and we had two special spots in our great big classroom where you could go to quietly read-one a little closet called “the shhhh….rooom” and the other an old fashioned white porcelain bathtub with a yellow fuzzy rug in it.  Can you see why those memories have stayed with me?  I hope that Clark makes many special memories this year.  Yesterday we visited the classroom and he was delighted with all the books in his desk, the sharp pencil, the eraser, everything.

1st Day of 1st Grade
What will Tabby and I do with ourselves all day? Well, today we are visiting a friend in the morning and baking a special first day of cake in the afternoon. Next week will be the really big change for me-Tabby will be in preschool three mornings a week and for the time ever there will be an overlap of the kids being out at school.  That means two hours all to myself on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  I am giddy with possibilities. What should I do first? Catch up on the 20 or so book reviews I need to do on my book blog? Finish the Back to School Harvest quilt? I plan to not have email or Facebook open because I don’t want to fritter away my special time. But back to today…. I hope Clark has a great day and I can’t wait to hear all about it when he gets home!

  1. Congratulations to your first grader and preschooler! And congratulations to you: two decadent hours a day, three days a week. Something you might want to add to the Don’t Fritter list: housecleaning. Unless you happen to like housecleaning, that is. (My best friend does. But I think it’s ’cause she’s an alien. But that’s another story.) The chores can always wait just a little longer, so that Mommy can get some well-deserved Me Time.
