…And Summer Begins

Posted on

Isn’t this such a beautiful picture? Aren’t I so lucky to have 50 similar photos taken with my camera and be requested, “Please don’t delete any of them, Mom! It’s the best room I’ve ever made!” This is what we’ve got going on day 2 of summer vacation. Still in our pajamas and playing video games first thing in the morning. I’ve told Clark that every day can’t be like this, but faced with the prospect of 99 degrees today I can’t seem making everyone go outside to play.  Yesterday on day 1 there was plenty of trampoline jumping, a swim in a friend’s pool, and a very long playtime with a friend.  Except for me getting mad about spin art paint on the front porch and discovering a hole in my precious and beautiful hammock (new rule: no kids in it, except if they are with me, being read to), it was a nice day.
The best part though was at the very end of the day-9 o’clock and still a hint of light out.  Clark, Paul, and I outside trying to put the chickens to bed.  The big chickens had, of course, been in bed for almost 2 hours already.  The little ones were scattered all over the place.  I informed the few that were all by themselves, wandering off towards the woods in the dusk, that they were destined to be fox food if they kept that up.  They are still not going into the coop on their own, so as they began to settle to bed-by piling on top of each other, snuggling their heads under each other’s wings, and being all around adorable-we picked them up and placed them in the coop.  It was so hot that we replaced the big door with a fully chicken wired one so that they have maximum ventilation and fresh air and don’t overheat.
The ducks, meanwhile, provided us with a beautiful and charming summer night display–while a couple of bats flittered around overhead, the ducks chased-and caught!-lightning bugs!!!
Stay cool everyone!

  2. I was SO excited when we got that big camel sofa thing in Kirby. We didn’t get a fraction of those other cool things, though, so kudos to Clark for being the King of Kirby!
